ouldn’t have heard of Ford EcoSport in your entire lives. That’s primarily because, this model was made and sold in Brazil, and sales were focused only in certain South American countries. At this year’s New Delhi Auto Show, Ford debuted the second generation of the EcoSport in near-production concept form, in a bid to expand Ford’s market presence in India and other emerging markets.

The EcoSport is basically a Fiesta with higher ground clearance and designed to act as a mini SUV, similar to the Nissan Juke or Daihatsu Terios. The vehicle borrows many cues from its siblings, namely Ford Fiesta and upcoming Ford Escape. Styling is incorporated with Ford’s Kinetic design theme, and follows the trend that has been highly prevalent in their new models. The EcoSport has an aggressive and sleeker design compared to the Fiesta, complete with a high-mounted trapezoidal grille (looks like a big mouth!) and distinct LED headlamps. The rear has a tailgate-mounted spare tyre but still doesn’t hide the borrowed cues.

Talking about the mechanics, the EcoSport is designed on Ford’s own B-segment platform. Since majority of these countries have tough rural areas and poor road networks, designers have claimed that they strengthened the body, tweaked the suspension for heavy duty work and improved road clearance. It’s going to be manufactured in India and Brazil.

The biggest surprise is the engine. Ford has utilised their new unique-but-controversial 1.0-litre 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine. To crank up the power from the small engine, the unit is turbocharged, and has direct-injection, squeezing out a rather impressive 118 hp and 163 Nm of torque, while mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

The vehicle will head to 100 markets globally in the future and so you can expect it in the GCC in a few years. Since Ford has plans to make 85% of their cars run on EcoBoost engines by 2014, we may be lucky enough to get the same 1.0-litre Ecoboost engine, or else, we may have to be content with the same options as the Fiesta sold here.

The world’s largest automaker, Toyota Motor Corp., is eyeing emerging markets with a new low cost model that was unveiled this week in India. The production version of the 2010 New Delhi Show >Etios Concept is available at launch as a four-door sedan model, but will be joined by a five door hatchback called the Etios Liva in April of 2011.

The company said the Etios has been developed specifically for Indian customers and will be built at a plant in Bidadi, near Bangalore. However, Toyota eventually plans to offer the small sedan in other emerging markets such as China, Brazil, Thailand and possibly certain regions of South America.

The 4.265mm (167.9-in.) long sedan boasts a rather large boot with a luggage space of 595-liters and is powered by a newly developed 1.5L, 16V DOHC engine coupled to a 5-Speed manual transmission. The Etios sedan will be available in four variants, J, G, V and VX, with prices ranging between 4.96 Lakhs and 6.86 Lakhs making it the company’s most affordable offering in India.

Commenting on the launch of the Etios, Mr. Akio Toyoda, President TMC said: “India is a key market for our overall strategic growth plans, and the launch of the Etios is definitely a milestone not only for Toyota in India but for Toyota globally.”

Seat revealed today the facelifted 2012 Ibiza model range, including the base model, the three-door SC, the ST station wagon, and the sporty FR version. The 2012 Seat Ibiza facelift shows various interior and exterior design updates, and it comes with improved efficiency while promising a higher quality. At the exterior, the facelifted 2012 Ibiza shows a re-designed bumper with a trapezoidal grille, new headlights and fog lights, and a re-styled hood. The 2012 Seat Ibiza FR comes with new aerodynamics, including front and rear bumpers, special alloy wheels and a leather-clad steering wheel.

It’s only a matter of time before Mercedes-Benz unleashes an AMG version of its new C-Class Coupe to rival BMW’s two-door M3, but Carscoop reader Luis Silva from Portugal decided to craft a quick chop of the C63 AMG Coupe for our viewing pleasure.

The actual C63 AMG Coupe could be revealed as early as this year’s edition of the Frankfurt Motor Show.
